Disability Awareness and Proofing Training for 2013

12 participants from various groups such as; Its Good to Talk, Sweets, Monsignor McCarthy Family Resource Centre, Athlone Community Radio, Citizens Information, Alopecia Ireland, Midlands Regional Youth Service have completed have completed the Disability Awareness and Proofing Training for 2013. This 3 day course which was delivered by Ms Beverley Webster who has delivered this training in County Westmeath on previous occasions for WCD and it was fully funded by the LCDP programme.
As part of the learning participants were required to carry out research on how their own organisations could improve services and accessibility for people with disabilities. Mr Hugh McGuire and Mr Anthony Rafferty spoke to the group to share their first hand experience of what it is actually like “ Living with a Disability”. It is hoped that further training will be available in 2014, funding permitting. A date for your diary later in the year is Wednesday 16th October when WCD will be organising its annual Disability Services and Information Day which will be held in Shamrock Lodge Hotel Athlone.
