Westmeath Community Development assists 242 of its clients to secure employment in 2018
With the release of December live register figures, WCD is delighted to have played its part in the downward trend of the live register figures in the county in 2018. Numbers have fallen from a high of 6,132 in December 2017 to the reduced levels of 4,992 in December 2018. Click here for CSO figures.
Last year 242 WCD clients were assisted to secure employment across our employment services. Employment was secured in various sectors with warehousing, healthcare, retail, clerical and manufacturing accounting for the largest numbers.
Frank Murtagh, CEO, Westmeath Community Development, noted that “2018 has been a very good year for employment for clients of Westmeath Community Development with 242 people securing employment across our employment services. As we set out in 2019, we hope to continue this trend and whilst we are conscious of the threats to our local economy, principally from a disorderly Brexit, 2019 is also the year that Centre Parcs will open and that will be a significant economic and employment boost to the region.
Around 70% of our clients who secured employment would have come from the Live Register, and the decline in the Live Register in Westmeath of 18% in the last 12 months is very encouraging. We hope that our work and our collaborations with Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection will help contribute to this trend again in 2019.”
