Give it a Swirl Day - the National Day of Volunteering - takes place again this year on 25th September 2009. Westmeath Volunteer Centre are once again facilitating projects in the Westmeath area.

We're looking for community groups/not for profits in Westmeath to contact us with possible projects that could involve volunteers (both both employee volunteers or individuals) for a single day.

Be creative - and you could really benefit from a group of volunteers who are willing and able to make a difference in a day!

Below are details of some of the projects that happened in 2008 which could give you an idea of what your group could ask for/benefit from!

Below are a flavour of some of the projects that happened in Ireland during Give it a Swirl Day 08 and may give you an idea on what type of projects you could develop. Contact us at the volunteer centre and we'd be happy to help your group flesh out a proposal and will actively seek businesses/volunteers to carry out your project.

Clondalkin Addiction Support Project
Volunteers from Salesforce Inc. created a sensory garden in Clondalkin working alongside staff from the centre. Salesforce provided all the materials on the day and the day finished with a barbeque for all involved.

Following on from this project, Salesforce continued to work with CASP, providing IT and database support to the project.

Carline Centre
Staff from Salesforce used their creative skills to develop a graffitti wall in the Carline Centre in Clondalkin. Again, all materials on the day were provided by Salesforce and the end product really brightened up the day

Computer Classes and Day trip
Staff from Wyeth facilitated computer classes in Stewarts hospital for the day plus took several clients
of the hospital on a day trip to the pictures and dinner!

Bowling
Staff from Wyeth brought a group of young people from a local youth group to visit the facilities in Wyeth and followed up with a day bowling. A great day was had by all.

Scoil Carmel
Staff from Salesforce spent a day painting and revamping the pre-fabs in Scoil Carmel.

Fettercarin Horse Project.
Staff from Wyeth spent a day mucking out at the Fettercairn Horse Project. After this day, the staff continued to volunteer with the project on a Saturday morning - a win/win for all concerned.
