BabyCafe 2009Recently the Baby Cafe run by the Community Mothers programme was asked by the I Witness programme for RTE to allow their cameras in to film the baby cafe and focus one particular mother’s story and how she has benefited from attending the Baby Cafe.

Elaine Perry moved from Bettystown in Co. Meath in September 2006 to Mullingar, both herself and her husband commuted every day and had very little time to get to know her neighbours or what was happening in the local Community.  After the birth of her first child in July 08 Elaine felt very alone and isolated as she was used to busy work life and was as part of her job, part of a busy team. When her daughter was 10 weeks old Elaine heard about a Baby Cafe that had started in Mullingar from her GP.  Elaine went along to the baby Cafe where she meet other new mums and their babies, she kept coming week after week and made new friends, shared her experiences of being a new mum and began to feel part of the local Community.  This aspect of feeling part of the local Community was the theme that the IWitness programme focused on and the difference that the Baby Cafe has made to Elaine and other mothers from the local area.
