What is the Parent Support Programme?

It is a programme for all parents with children 0-5. It especially provides home visits for parents having their first or second baby. Home Visitors are called Community Mothers.

How much will it cost?

There is no charge for the Community Mother Service

How does it work?

You can request a Community Mother to call by asking at your ante-natal clinic, asking your Public Health Nurse, G.P, Practice Nurse, any other professional or by contacting your local programme office.

How are Community Mothers selected?

Community Mothers are selected because of their experience as parents. They receive training to enable them to bring the programme to parents.

What is involved in the Programme?

The co-ordinator will call to you. She will offer and explain what a home visit is about. These visits are at your time of convenience and you set the agenda.

What will the Community Mother discuss with me?

This is very much up to you. The visit will centre round your needs as an individual and as a parent. Trained Community Mothers have an excellent knowledge of activities and services in your area, particular those for parents of young families. The Community Mother can link you to these services if it is your wish.

If you wish to become a Community Mother: If you are an experienced parent, who is a good listener, non-judgemental and able to work in a confidential environment and are willing to volunteer one or more hours a week, please contact your local Programme office at 044-9348571.

If you wish to refer an individual to the Community Mothers Programme to contact, please call 044-9348571 or alternatively, download the referral form here.
