A series of visual art workshops is being planned for Westmeath as part of the new Westmeath Rural Arts Initiative project. The first workshop will take place in Ballynacargy.
It is hoped this will lead to a series of 7 further workshops which are open to absolute beginners and more experienced artists. All interested individuals from all of the local communities of Streete, Rathowen, Bunbrosna, Ballinalack, Rathconrath, Ballynacargy, Emper, Sonna, Lismacaffrey, Multyfarnham, Ballinafid, Ballymore, Milltown, and surrounding areas are welcome to attend. Booking is advised as places are limited.
The next meeting for the project takes place on Tuesday, February 9th at 7.30p.m. in Streete Community Centre and all will be welcome on the night including those who haven’t attended any previous events or meetings.
The decision to organise these workshops was made by volunteers at a recent meeting of the Westmeath Rural Arts Initiative which is supported by Westmeath Community development under the Rural Development (LEADER) Programme 2007-2013 and seeks to empower the local communities to work together to promote arts and cultural events and activities. The project is being facilitated and promoted by Rural Arts Network facilitator, Conor O’Leary.
Further events which were discussed on the night and which it is hoped to host in the local communities include youth drama workshops, a night of film, a set-dancing weekend and a touring concert featuring a top class traditional singer and musicians in May.
If you have any event ideas, or wish to be added to the networks mailing list, you can contact the project co-ordinator, Conor O'Leary at (087) 9048095 or by e-mail to
