Chamber of Commerce and Mullingar Marketing set to launch date for the "Gar" plus Live Local Shop Local campaign.
A Big Hello to The Gar
Calling on all retailers in Mullingar, the countdown is now on for the very first tourist currency arriving in Mullingar as well as the Live Local, Shop Local campaign kicking off.
The Gar is unique to Mullingar and will be used to promote local businesses and encourage tourists as well as locals to shop in town. Participating retailers provide a minimum of 10% discount to Gar holders, which in turn offers value and incentivise tourists to shop in the town and take advantage of the many special offers.
The idea behind the initiative is to preserve and encourage trade in the town and generate positive national publicity for Mullingar as a tourist destination; the concept has already received national coverage on Hectors show on RTE 2FM radio show and by launching this novelty concept we aim to create a buzz that should have the whole country talking. Over the last few weeks we have visited all representatives of every street with our information road show receiving very positive feedback from retailers in town with many signing up already including O’Meara’s Garden Centre, PW Shaws, Rock and Bowl, Bloomfield House Hotel, Belvedere House and Gardens and many more each offering discounts when you present the Gar when purchasing.
The Gar will be launched on the 28th of April and distributed through a central bank type premises in Market Square Mullingar from 10am-3pm that day, the Gar will also be distributed to tourists and visitors directly when booking into their hotel or guesthouse all encouraging visitors to stay in town for great shopping and added value by spending their Gar’s.
The success of The Gar is solely dependent on the participation of local traders, so the more businesses who sign up the more attractive Mullingar will be as a tourist and shopping destination. Hotels/ B&B’s will also carry a list of retailers who accept the Gar to help steer customers towards shopping areas to spend their Gar’s.
The Gar will be available to the public on Saturday April 28th and will play a significant role in adding value to tourists arriving for the various upcoming festivals, the International Horse Show and various other organised events that will all attract tourism into Mullingar for of fun and entertainment.
Before it reaches the public we need ALL retailers in town to sign up. Launched in conjunction with the Gar will be the Live Local, Shop Local campaign so everyone who signs up will receive a poster for their shop window letting customers know they accept the Gar but also to publicise the shop local campaign.
I have attached a copy of a “Gar” and also a user’s guide for the “Gar” with details how it works.. , when you sign up you will also receive a poster saying you receive the Gar which also doubles as our Live Local, Shop Local campaign.. The more that sign up the better it will be for the town..
