The aim of the course is to “enable community activists gain a thorough understanding of community development combined with the practical skills necessary to work effectively in development work”.

The course will run on a part-time basis over a 1 year period, it will be delivered one evening a week with some additional workshops on some Saturdays. Modular based, the participants will be required to complete assignments and a community profile. The course will be delivered using an adult education approach and is specifically designed to assist new students who have left the educational system for a number of years. The start date for the course is October 2010, with interviews scheduled for Sept 2010.

Entry criteria for supplemented places through the Community & Voluntary Forum include the following:

  • Participants will be active members of a community or voluntary group that is affiliated to the C & V Forum.
  • Participants will be interviewed to determine their interest and commitment levels to not only participating on the course but also completing the course in full and submitting work for certification.
  • Be nominated by their affiliated group (the forum reserve the right to contact nominating groups to clarify information submitted on the declaration of interest form attached)
