fasFÁS, in partnership with the Westmeath County Library Service, are delighted to resume the ‘FÁS eLearning at the Library Project’ in Mullingar and Athlone libraries. This learning programme has been developed by FÁS for people with little or no IT skills as well as those with some basic IT skills. This initiative aims to attract those who would like to develop their PC/IT Skills in a supported workshop environment in areas such as Introduction to Computing, Internet Use and Email. Progression to complete online courses such as ECDL, Health & Safety, Finance Fundamentals, and Microsoft Word/Excel (as well as many others) is wholly encouraged and supported.

How does it work?

All of the courses are available on-line at your local library and all of the facilitated courses are free! Once registered to an online course you can also work from home if you have a broadband connection.  This is a wonderful opportunity for people to develop their skills at their own pace or through attending structured sessions with the FÁS facilitator at the libraries each week. The facilitator will be present at the library to assist participants familiarise themselves in using a computer and to support their progress through a suite of online courses hosted on a dedicated eLearning website.  There is a continuous intake to this programme and people are encouraged to call to their local libraries for further information on how they can participate in this programme.

Who is it for?

This programme is open to all learners (over 18 years) and will assist people who have:

·         Little or no IT skills (through workshops in the library delivered by a facilitator).

·         Some IT skills, for learners who wish to learn on line but may need some assistance (also through workshops).

·         Higher levels of IT skills for learners who can access online courseware remotely and email the facilitator for support if required.

Participants are encouraged to come along and register their interest in the programme – which is delivered free of charge – and to partake in what has already proven to be a wonderful learning experience nationwide. This project also allows the Westmeath Library Service to reinforce their role in lifelong learning and education.
